Research Overview
Mario Günther's main research interests lie in Epistemology and the Philosophy of AI. His research ventures into Decision Theory, the Philosophy of Law, Logic & Philosophy of Language, the Philosophy of Science, Cognitive Science, and Metaphysics. He developed a theory of justified belief at the intersection of Epistemology and Decision Theory, which gave rise to an account of legal proof in the Philosophy of Law. He offered a theory of learning conditional and causal infromation at the intersection of Epistemology and Cognitive Science. His research on conditionals in Logic & Philosophy of Language led to a research program on causation, culminating in his 2026 book From Reasons to Causes (Cambridge University Press). His research in the Philosophy of AI centers on algorithmic decision making and AI safety.
